Let’s face it, everybody makes mistakes, and when it comes to cryptocurrencies some mistakes are difficult to avoid, particularly when just getting started with cryptocurrencies.
Arguably one of the most common mistakes is accidentally sending coins to an address on the wrong blockchain — which is particularly problematic for cryptocurrencies that have experienced a fork at one point or another. This is mostly a problem for cryptocurrencies derived from Bitcoin and Ethereum, since these have forked several times.
For example, sending Ethereum Classic (ETC) to an address on the Ethereum (ETH) blockchain, and vice-versa would typically lead to the funds being lost unless they are manually recovered. Thankfully, Exodus wallet includes a simple built-in sweep feature, allowing you to easily recover funds should you accidentally send them to the wrong type of address.
In this tutorial, we will be showing you how to sweep your Ethereum wallet for Ethereum Classic (ETC). You will need to ensure you already have Exodus installed to complete the steps outlined in this tutorial.
With that said, let’s begin!
How to Sweep for Ethereum Classic (ETC)
Step 1: To begin, you will first need to open Exodus, and unlock your wallet by entering your password (if set). Once in Exodus, navigate to the ‘Wallet’ section by clicking the button on the left.
Step 2: In the Wallet section you will be provided a list of available wallets. Here, you can either scroll to the cryptocurrency you want to sweep directly, or you can type it into the search bar at the top to automatically select it.
In this example, we will be looking to sweep for Ethereum Classic (ETC), so we will need to sweep our Ethereum addresses. Note that this feature is used to retrieve ETC that was accidentally sent to an Ethereum (ETH) address,
Step 3: In the Ethereum wallet, click the three dots at the top right of the screen to open up additional options, one of which is ‘Sweep for ETH Classic’.
Step 4: Click the ‘Sweep for ETH Classic’ option. This should open up a new prompt where Exodus begins searching for available any ETC. If you do not have any ETC in your address, you will be presented with the below screen, whereas if you are lucky enough to have ETC available to sweep, this will automatically be moved to your Ethereum Classic (ETC) wallet.
Optional Step: This process also works in the reverse direction, allowing you to sweep your Ethereum Classic wallet for Ethereum (ETH). To do this, simply repeat steps 3 and 4, but instead, do this in the Ethereum Classic wallet. Exodus will automatically deposit any ETH found to your Ethereum wallet.
