With DASH being one of the fastest cryptocurrencies available, it is regularly used for day-to-day transactions, which means many DASH users need to access their wallet and funds on a regular basis.
Because of this, it is particularly important to ensure that you’re following best practices in terms of security, to minimize your exposure to risk and keep your funds protected
There is perhaps no better way to do this than using a DASH hardware wallet such as the Ledger Nano S, which uses a secure element to isolate your private keys and protect your funds.
It should be noted, however, that you will not be able to benefit from the PrivateSend and InstantSend features when storing your DASH on a Ledger Nano S — these features are only available in the Dash Core Client.
With that in mind, storing your DASH on your Ledger is a remarkably simple process, and should take no more than a few minutes to set up.
Make sure to update your “Ledger Live” App from here:
- Ledger Live installed
- Ledger Nano S hardware wallet
- An official Ledger USB cable
Install the Dash App
Step 1: To begin managing DASH on your Ledger device, you will first need to install the Dash app through the Ledger Live software.
To start, open Ledger Live and navigate to the ‘Manager’ section on the left.
Step 2: Here, you will be prompted to connect and unlock your Ledger device. To do so, plug your Ledger Nano S into your computer using an official Ledger USD cable. You will be prompted to enter your PIN code, doing so will unlock your device and automatically take you to the Ledger Dashboard.
Step 3: Once Ledger Live has detected that your device is unlocked, you will receive a notification on your Ledger asking you to ‘Allow Ledger manager.’ Click the right button once to confirm, this will again be detected by Ledger Live, which will automatically redirect you to the Ledger Live manager.
Step 4: Now that we have opened the app catalog, we need to find the Dash app. To do this, you can either scroll down through the available list of apps, or search ‘Dash’ in the search box.
Step 5: After finding the Dash app, click the ‘Install’ button to begin the installation procedure. You may need to unlock your wallet using your PIN again, so be sure to check your device screen if this is the case.
Step 6: After clicking ‘Install’, the Dash app will begin installing on your device. This process should take under a minute, and you will be presented with the ‘Successfully installed Dash’ screen when complete.
Note: Do not remove your Ledger during the installation process, as this can corrupt the app.
Add a Dash Account
Step 1: After installing the Dash app, you will need to add a Dash account to your portfolio.
To do this, navigate to the ‘Portfolio’ section on Ledger Live, and click the ‘Add accounts’ button.
Step 2: In the ‘Add accounts’ prompt, scroll down to find and select ‘Dash’, before clicking ‘Continue’.
Step 3: Ensure your Ledger is connected to your computer, unlock the device and open the newly installed Dash app.
After opening the app, Ledger Live will detect this, and the ‘Continue’ option will become available. Click this to move on to the next step.
Step 4: After a brief period of synchronization, you will be prompted to add a new account. Here, you will be able to name the account, in this case, we chose the name ‘cryptocoin’ but this can be anything you like.
After picking your account name, check the box next to it on the right, and click the ‘Add account’ button.
Step 5: This should complete the process of adding your new Dash account.
You will now be able to transact with Dash through the ‘Send’ and ‘Receive’ tabs in Ledger Live. Note that you will need to verify any new addresses or transfers using your Ledger device, so ensure this is plugged in whenever accessing your portfolio.
You are now ready to go! But why stick with just Dash, when your Ledger can do so much more?
