Designed to facilitate the fast transfer of funds to anywhere in the world, and enable cross-chain transfers of value, Stellar lumens is widely considered to be one of the most promising candidates for large-scale crypto adoption.
Stellar Lumens (XLM) has been around since 2014, but really took off in mid-2017 as its value spiked from practically zero, to close to $1 within a space of 8 months.
Stellar Account Viewer is a simple wallet used to manage your XLM, and is a suitable wallet for those just getting started with the platform. At the moment the wallet simply allows you to make payments, as well as view your transaction history and public address.
Although Stellar Account Viewer is an extremely basic Stellar wallet, it is also the only wallet that currently works with the Ledger Nano S, making it arguably the most secure way to store your XLM.
Make sure to update your “Ledger Live” App from here:
Installing the Stellar App
Step 1: Getting started with storing your Stellar (XLM) on your Ledger device is a relatively simple process, which first begins with you installing the dedicated Stellar app on your device.
To get started, open Ledger Live and navigate to the Manager tab.
Step 2: In the Manager section you will be asked to connect your Ledger Nano S. When you see this message, plug your Ledger Nano S into your computer using an official Ledger USB cable, and enter your PIN to unlock the device and open the dashboard.
Once this is complete, Ledger Live will check that your device has the dashboard open, and will show the screen below.
Step 3: Once your device has been unlocked, you will be prompted to ‘Allow Ledger manager’ on your Ledger screen. When you see this prompt, simply click the right button once to confirm. This will be automatically detected by Ledger Live, which will then redirect you to the app catalog.
Step 4: Now, in the app catalog we need to find the Stellar app. To do this, you can either scroll down the list of available apps, or search ‘Stellar’ in the search box to automatically pull up the correct app.
After finding the Stellar app, click the ‘Install’ button. Ledger Live will then begin installing the app on your device — this should take no more than a minute or so.
Note that you may need to unlock your device by entering your PIN before installation will begin.
