Billing itself as an all-in-one blockchain solution, Ark is considered to be a platform that puts consumer adoption first and foremost. As a platform, Ark is designed to help make creating and launching new blockchains as simple as possible, allowing developers to create their own clone of Ark in just minutes.
Unlike Bitcoin (BTC) which operates using the proof-of-work consensus mechanism, Ark uses what is known as delegated proof-of-stake, which allows Ark holders to vote for their favorite delegate, and participate in the staking system to earn Ark rewards.
With the ARK Virtual Machine, integration of the inter-planetary file system (IPFS) and core 3.0 due for completion within 2019, it might not be long before ARK truly delivers on its promise of an open, accessible blockchain for all.
In anticipation of Ark Deployer GUI which is scheduled for release soon, the ARK cryptocurrency may begin to experience significant gains, and as such, securely storing your ARK should be one of your primary concerns when investing in this promising project.
Thankfully, the team behind Ark have provided an excellent wallet, which features compatibility with the secure Ledger Nano S hardware wallet, giving Ark holders access to Ark blockchain without sacrificing security.
The Ark Desktop Wallet is the official wallet client for the Ark platform, and is available for all major platforms including iOS, Android and Desktop. As the official client, Ark Desktop Wallet features the full range of Ark functionality, allowing users to interact with both the Ark Mainnet and Devnet, manage ARK tokens, and import wallets.
For the purposes of this guide, we will be using the MacOS version of Ark Desktop Wallet, though the steps are broadly similar regardless of the platform you use.
Make sure to update your “Ledger Live” App from here:
- Ledger Nano S with the Ark app installed
- Ark Desktop Wallet installed
- An official Ledger USB cable
Connect Ledger with Ark Desktop Wallet
Step 1: To begin using your Ledger Nano S with Ark Desktop Wallet, you will need to first open Ark Desktop Wallet on your computer.
With Ark open, connect your Ledger Nano S to your computer using the official Ledger USB cable. Once connected, unlock your device by entering your PIN, and open the Ark app.
After a few seconds, you should see a notification that Ark Desktop Wallet has detected your Ledger.
Step 2: After several more seconds, you should see the “Loading Ledger” text in the top right change to say “Ledger 1”.
After this appears, select your Ledger to open your wallet.
Step 3: After opening your wallet, the Ark address for your Ledger wallet will be displayed beneath your Ledger name, e.g. “Ledger 1”.
(1) This is the address you will need to transfer your Ark to for cold-storage on your Ledger Nano S.
(2) By clicking the ‘Send’ button, you will be able to make transfers using any Ark balance you have. These will need to be confirmed on your Ledger device.
(3) You will be able to access the delegate registration menu and rename your Ledger account by clicking the three dots in the top bar.
Congrats, you have now learned how to access your Ledger Ark wallet using the Ark Desktop Manager software.
